ABOUT ME

Young Gu Her, Ph.D., is a tenured Associate Professor of Hydrology and Agricultural Engineering in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering and the Tropical Research and Education Center at the University of Florida. He joined UF as an assistant professor in August 2016 and became an associate professor in July 2023.

He earned his Ph.D. in Biological Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech in 2011 and his M.S. and B.S. in Agricultural Engineering at Seoul National University in 2002 and 2000. Before joining UF, he held research positions at Purdue University and Texas A&M University and worked as a research engineer at Dong-Bu Engineering in South Korea.

His research focuses on hydrologic and water-quality modeling and monitoring, watershed processes, surface water-groundwater interactions, agricultural water management, climate and land-use change, conservation practices, and uncertainty in environmental modeling. He combines process-based and data-driven models with field observations and geospatial analysis.

Dr. Her’s editorial service includes Climatic Change, Paddy and Water Environment, Sustainable Water Resources Management, Discover Water, and Frontiers in Water. He also serves as a department and center editor for UF/IFAS EDIS.
